Do you ever think about eternity? When there will be a day with no more pain, tears, or suffering? Do you believe there will be a day when God personally wipes away your tears? There will be. Revelation 21 says, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (ESV).
I remember when my husband died, the only thing I wanted, besides him being alive, was for the Lord to take me to Heaven. I knew the pain would stop the minute I was in the presence of the Lord. I needed every tear wiped away. Do you? If you are finding yourself in immense suffering today, could you cling to the promise that someday the pain you are experiencing will be gone? Instead of pain, there will be great beauty in Heaven, and it is waiting for you. “ To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. V.7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son” (Revelation 21:6-7). Our inheritance awaits the children of God. Jesus said he is going to prepare a room for us, and he will come back to get us (John 14:2).
In the New Jerusalem, there will be all sorts of beautiful gems: jasper, sapphire, onyx, agate, emerald, carnelian, chrysolite, beryl, topaz, chrysoprase, jacinth, and amethyst. There will be twelve huge pearls on each of the gates in Heaven. Pearls are formed in response to a wound in the oyster's flesh. Our wounds are bleeding out right now, but the Lamb of God is making beauty from them. Our healing will be on display in Heaven. God is making everything beautiful in its time. The New Jerusalem will be the total restoration of Eden. Nothing can or will defile it because Satan will be locked up in the Lake of Fire forever, and so will his demons and all things evil (Rev 20:14).
The promise of the New Jerusalem is the restoration from death. “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting” (1 Corinthians 15:55)? There is only a temporary sting here on this earth for those who are made alive in Christ. Death was defeated on the cross when Jesus said it was finished. “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him” (Colossians 2:15). We already have the victory. If you have lost a loved one who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, rest assured that they are alive with him, and there will be a day when you will be reunited (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
I hope today you find hope in the New Jerusalem, where God restores everything that was destroyed by the Fall. Take heart that there is coming a day when death will be swallowed up for good, and all your pain, tears, and suffering will be no more. There is a beautiful place waiting for us; hold fast.
With God's love,
